Pam Leggate

Pam finds inspiration for her art in many things, including nature and man-made objects. Whatever is challenging her most at any particular time is where she concentrates her efforts. Pam tries to achieve the effects of objects within space by playing light against dark and dark against light. She works primarily in watercolor and pencil.

Pam has a BS in art education as well as graduate courses from Kutztown State College. She also studied at Pennsylvania State University, the DeCordova Museum School of Art (Lincoln, MA) and the College of St. Paul and St. Mary (Cheltenham, England). Currently, Pam teaches art at the Oakland Senior Center.

Dennis Moster

I have dabbled in art all my life. Since I broke my neck in 2003, becoming quadriplegic, art has become my main method of finding a focus, peace & enjoyment. Being paralyzed from the collarbone down, with my arms and hands mostly compromised, finding things to do independently can be tough.

A couple years into my rehab, as part of my occupational therapy I began using a laptop with… a “poker” molded for my finger to type on the keyboard, while I could move the mouse with my other hand. I found Microsoft Paint and began to experiment with it. Soon I was making art. It was something I could do by myself – without asking for help. Roll up to the laptop & create. I print my ‘Paint’ings on high-quality canvas print-paper, mat & frame them

In March 2012, an occupational therapist molded me a pen holder in which I use a black pen. Since then I have been working on sketching. The Prints of Sketches are taken directly from my sketchbooks & printed on high-quality paper, matted & framed.

The subject matter I tend toward is that of nature, still-lifes, flora & fauna, landscapes, abstracts, geometrics, color combinations, dimension, texture, sometimes humor.

I truly enjoy working on this art. It puts me in a positive, peaceful place. It’s my hope that these pieces bring peace & good vibes to your space.

Art in The Park Gallery

Oakland’s first annual Art in The Park event was a great success born out of the partnership of Oakland Arts, The Farmers’ Market, the Public Events Committee, and the Oakland Public Library.

Organized by Oakland Arts members Tracy DiTolla and Caron McCormick, the event featured numerous Oakland Artists who set up on the library’s lawn directly adjecent to the Farmers’ Market, the show drew numerous Oakland residents and many from neighborhing towns for an early morning art show.

The event ran from 9am to 1pm, and enjoyed the early morning sun before the threat of rain covered the area.

The range of work spanned the gamut of paintings, sculptures, photography, with each artist displaying a professionalism that gave browsers and buyers plenty to enjoy.

Below is a list of artists who participated, and a gallery of photos collected from visitors, residents and artists.

Ted Richards, Scott Scarpelli, Tom Shelton, Marybeth Costello, Janet Howard-Fatta, Tracy DiTolla, Jim DeLillo, Joann Cicero, Renee Maloof McCormick, Heidi L Bilezikian, Dennis Moster, Natasha Poleshuk and Winston Maciel.

Culture in Oakland

Culture is the sum of all arts, and Oakland artists, musicians, photographers, crafters, writers, filmmakers are working towards bringing a greater vibrancy to the Oakland’s community.

Certain towns or cities have deliberately attempted to put forward a presence in which culture ranged high above other achievements in military strength, or in manufacturing, or in strategic importance.

Oakland Arts hopes to enrich the lives of Oakland residents and visitors by promoting arts and supporting the work of local artists, artisans, writers, musicians and performers.

Local Artists & SAO

The Sports Association of Oakland is teaming up with local Oakland artists to bring new art programs to the children of Oakland.

The classes being considered right now include art, crafts, yoga, theater, zumba, music, and photography. The programs are expected to operate out of the library and/or the Danny D’ building.

A launch is planned for the fall of 2012, but the number of classes and the location of each has yet to be scheduled. All fees will be devoted to the programs, providing the instructor with an honorarium and covering any other applicable supplies or costs.
